Mobile Laundry Program
The Mission of the Mobile Laundry Program is to break down barriers to success for low-income families (0-30% AMI) in Larimer County and adults experiencing homelessness in Loveland, through free, mobile laundry services.
Statement of Need:
Poudre and Thompson School Districts report, on average, that 1,750 students experience homelessness each year. Families who lack a fixed, regular place to live struggle to meet their basic needs–including access to laundry. Larimer County school personnel report that students are negatively impacted by the lack of clean clothing, including school absences, social stigma and self-esteem issues.
The Loveland community lacks laundry services for people experiencing homelessness (as provided in Fort Collins at the Murphy Center) and not having access to clean clothes is a proven barrier to success. Primary hygiene needs such as a laundry are often overlooked, but essential for anyone trying to secure employment, compete for affordable housing and regain their self-sufficiency.
Mobile Laundry will collaborate with the Poudre and Thompson Valley School Districts in Fort Collins and Loveland to identify and serve students and their families who qualify for McKinney-Vento Program benefits. In collaboration with the City of Loveland and the Loveland Salvation Army, the program will also identify, qualify and serve adults experiencing homelessness in Loveland.
Our Mobile Laundry truck will be equipped with six sets of washers and dryers. We will identify regular, predictable locations in Fort Collins and Loveland for program participants to drop off their dirty clothes and then pick them up 90 minutes later(or at the end of the day), clean, dry and folded!
More Than Just Laundry:
Not only does laundry service alleviate the cost, time, and transportation barriers for people experiencing extreme poverty and homelessness, it also provides the opportunity to identify and form relationships with people struggling with economic and housing insecurity. Clean laundry will serve as a gateway to the continuum of care available through referrals to existing community programs and services to help people survive crisis, move forward into stability and ultimately thrive in a return to self-sufficiency.
