What is the Housing First Initiative?

The Housing First Initiative has developed and tested Housing First solutions in Northern Colorado since 2018 and is now an umbrella for multiple programs including Frequent Utilizer Systems Engagement (FUSE), Mason Place (Fort Collins) and St Valentine Apartments (Loveland) Case Management and Housing Navigation.

Housing First case managers provide intensive, supportive housing practices to transition participants from chronic homelessness to permanent, stable housing.

Our Housing Specialist provides housing navigation for people experiencing homelessness who are voucher holders.  They also assist those who are housed with vouchers and at-risk of losing their housing (i.e., have received a notice of lease violation) and becoming homelessness.  For more information, please call (970) 672-1727.

Are you eligible for a Housing First Program?

You can be assessed for a Housing First program in two ways:

  • If you are already working with a service provider, ask that you be assessed for “Coordinated Entry.” Organizations that provide Coordinated Entry assessments include Family Housing Network, Disabled Resources, Crossroads Safehouse, Outreach Fort Collins, and many more.  For a full list, please visit Northern Colorado Continuum of Care.
  • Visit the Murphy Center for Hope and ask to see a Resource Navigator for an “Intake/Coordinated Assessment”.

If you would like to be assessed at the Murphy Center, your first step is to make an intake/assessment appointment with a Resource Navigator. Resource Navigators screen for eligibility for a wide range of housing programs.  If you are eligible for a housing program, the Resource Navigator will refer you to the appropriate program/staff member.  If you are not currently eligible for a housing program, the Resource Navigator will provide information and referrals for other community resources.

  • How to make an appointment with a Resource Navigator: call the Murphy Center at 970.494.9940 (after 10 am) for more information or visit the Murphy Center at 242 Conifer Street, Fort Collins, Monday – Friday, at 8 am.  Let the Front Desk staff know that you would like to sign up for an “intake/coordinated assessment”.

Please note:  Homeward Alliance does NOT operate affordable housing properties, issue vouchers or provide overnight shelter.  We work as part of the Northern Colorado Continuum of Care to help match housing resources to eligible individuals/families.  There is an extreme shortage of housing resources in our community.  Our agency can help you prepare for housing (documentation, employment/income, etc.), but we can not directly provide you with housing. Please speak with a staff member for more information.
